Videocasts: "Solving Wicked Water Problems"

Facilitated dialog with industry experts and “outsiders’ on solving wicked water problems. Topics will include: universal access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene; localized water treatment systems; real time water quantity and quality monitoring; water sector business model innovation; funding and financing in the water sector and alternative hydration technologies. 

Virtual Workshops

Our small group workshops will focus on critical water strategy and technology issues and trends with a focus on providing actionable insights. Topics will  initially focus on: corporate water strategy and innovation; digital water technologies and transformation of industrial sector; digital water utility transformation and energy, water and food nexus innovation.

Description: Impactful private and public sector strategies to increase resiliency and abundance for economic development, business growth, social well-being and ecosystem health.

Details: A discussion of how to build a resilient business, public sector and society when facing the challenges of water scarcity, poor water quality, and a lack of access to sanitation and hygiene. Emerging lessons learned from the pandemic will be explored as we re-shape our business, public sector and society to create equitable access to water, sanitation and hygiene: a strategy of creating abundance.

CREATIVE DESTRUCTION: INNOVATION IN THE WATER SECTOR

Description: The disruptive transformation of the private and public water sectors.

Details: Economist Joseph Schumpeter described the dynamic pattern in which innovative upstarts unseat established firms through a process he called "creative destruction."We tend to focus on competition under conditions of static equilibrium. However, Schumpeter insisted that disequilibrium was the driving force of capitalism. This thinking was leveraged by Stu Hart and Mark Milstein in “Global Sustainability and the Creative Destruction of Industries. Long standing innovation in the water selector coupled with the impact of the pandemic will be explored along with lessons learned.

Description: Building a water strategy to increase business value and social impact

Details: Over the past several years, many companies have moved from water management to water stewardship strategies. A more comprehensive corporate water strategy which builds upon stewardship actions can create greater business value and, in turn, greater positive impact to local economies, civil society and stakeholders. The value of a comprehensive corporate water strategy will be explored along with practical recommendations on how to build on water stewardship strategies.

WHAT IS A UTILITY IN A DIGITAL WORLD?

Description: The digital transformation of the water and wastewater utility sector was well underway prior to the pandemic. The pandemic has only accelerated this transformation.

Details: The water and wastewater utility sectors are rapidly adopting digital technologies to address urgent infrastructure, workforce and customer needs. Sector needs and trends, innovative technologies and business models along with best practices will be explored in detail.
